Walhalla Farm is the culmination of years of hard
work and refinement of dreams.
The
farm takes its name partly from the great Viking Hall where all the
victorious Vikings went when they died heroic: Valhalla, and
partly from the name of a horse who was my best friend: Waldon. He was truly a
horse who gave his all and who trusted his rider - together we
learned a lot and climbed our way up the levels until he had to be
put down at the young age of 11. Now, all who knew him and his
wicked sense of humor can picture him eating massive platefuls of
Sour Gummi Worms, swilling Mead, and ogling all the Danish
mares.
From
beginnings 27 years ago with a hunter lesson once a week to where I
am today, I have learned a lot and have an incredible amount of
respect for those who want to learn to ride and for the horses who
teach them. It is a privilege to teach those who truly
want to learn, and I take pride in my students' accomplishments -
whether it is the first time at a higher level, grappling with fear
issues, executing a perfect halt, or getting to the first show and
meeting all of my requirements for riding at a show:
Enter, ideally at A.
Salute, ideally facing the judge while still
aboard the horse who should also be facing the judge.
Do
something.
Exit, preferably at A, after doing
something, still sunny side up, and ideally on the same horse you
rode in on.
